Excellency,

On behalf of the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance (ACR), I would like to congratulate you on your reelection victory. Taiwan has set a remarkable example to the world on how a nation can establish successful resistance against an authoritarian regime while respecting human rights and creating economic opportunities for its citizens.

A delegation of the ACR had the great privilege of being received by you on October 10, 2019 in Taipei, a date marking your national day celebration and the start of Cuba’s first war of independence in 1868.

The ACR has a long history of solidarity and cooperation with the Taiwanese government and its civil society. Recently, in October 2019, a delegation of the ACR traveled to the Republic of China (Taiwan) to learn from the democratic movements and development model of the country.

The Cuban and Taiwanese people share democratic values as well as common goals for the protection of human rights in the struggle against oppressive systems. The Cuban resistance and exiled community stands with the ROC (Taiwan) in their quest for international recognition.

The ACR looks forward to building on our great relationship as we find more ways to cooperate and strengthen ties.

The Cuban resistance calls on the international community to formally recognize and respect the ROC’s (Taiwan) sovereignty.
